KEP Italia Helmet Size, Fit, and Style Guide

Michelle Drum

KEP Italia is a relative newcomer in the world of equestrian apparel but has already made a name as one of the safest and sleekest helmet brands on the market. If you’re on the hunt for a new equestrian helmet, a KEP helmet might be the perfect choice for you. Read on to learn more about this brand and why you should consider a KEP helmet.

What is a KEP Italia helmet?

KEP Italia is a premium equestrian riding helmet manufacturer located in Italy. Founders Lelia Polini and Bianca Collet-Serret set out to produce more comfortable, safer, and more innovative helmets than those available on the market. Through extensive research and rigorous testing, the first KEP helmet was created.

Since its start in 2007, KEP helmets have become regarded as one of the most fashionable equestrian helmets for their innovative technology and superior design. KEP helmets are widely available at equestrian retailers or online, where riders can customize their helmets to suit their style.

KEP helmets and accessories are crafted in Italy, where the company was founded. KEP Italia keeps a close eye on the fashion industry and uses the latest design trends to create beautiful equestrian helmets.

Are KEP helmets safe?

Safety is the primary concern of the KEP Italia brand. Each feature of their helmets, from the materials to the fit, is designed to protect riders without compromising comfort. KEP helmets also undergo rigorous testing to guarantee shock absorption, strap resistance, crush resistance, and other protective qualities.

KEP helmets are approved for wear in the U.S., Canada, and many other European countries due to the brand’s stringent safety standards. KEP helmets have received the following safety certifications:

  • European CE Certification
  • American and Canadian SEI Certification (ASTM/SEI Approval)
  • ISO 9001 Certification

What are KEP helmets made of?

KEP helmets are made from durable, high-quality materials. Lightweight laser-perforated steel is arranged in a strong honeycomb, reinforced with materials like aluminum, carbon, stainless steel, and Kevlar. Hypoallergenic, anti-static fabrics make up the interior of the helmet, keeping riders comfortable, especially on long rides.

How to measure for a KEP helmet

Measuring for a KEP Italia helmet is similar to measuring yourself for any other equestrian helmet

  1. Use a soft, flexible measuring tape that easily wraps around your head. Place the measuring tape around your head, just above your eyebrows and ears. Make sure the tape is level and sits comfortably on your forehead. The tape should sit snugly but not too tight.
  2. Once the measuring tape meets in the front, take note of the measurement in centimeters or inches. This measurement represents the circumference of your head.
  3. Check the sizing chart provided by the helmet manufacturer or retailer. Different brands may have slightly different sizing guidelines. Match your head measurement to the corresponding helmet size on the chart to determine the appropriate size for your helmet.

KEP Italia designs helmets to conform to the shape of riders’ heads. These helmets come in round and long oval shapes to fit more comfortably and snugly. Additional liners can also be used to make the fit of the helmet more secure.

How to care for a KEP Italia helmet

Proper care and maintenance of your equestrian riding helmet ensure long-lasting quality. For daily cleaning, use a soft, damp cloth to remove surface dirt and leave the helmet to air-dry at room temperature. The internal lining can be washed in cold water by hand or in the washing machine. Avoid using chemical detergents or solvents, especially for the helmet’s shell.

When not in use, store your KEP helmet away from direct sunlight and heat sources (so not the back of your car!).  Store your helmet in the original packaging if possible, preferably in a place where it is unlikely to fall, preferably on ground level. This prevents the helmet from crashing on the ground and getting damaged, thus reducing its protective capacity.
